Dr. Pilar Herrón

Mi interés de investigación se enfoca en la exploración de factores que faciliten el uso sostenible de la biodiversidad costera y marina, bajo un enfoque inter-disciplinario y holístico. En años recientes, mi trabajo se ha enfocado a la sostenibilidad del uso de recursos pesqueros, con énfasis en pesca artesanal, considerando aspectos biológicos, ecológicos y socio económicos. Lo anterior teniendo en cuenta que las pesquerías son sistemas socio-ecológicos, que deben analizarse y gestionarse integralmente. En años anteriores estuve involucrada en proyectos relacionados con la sostenibilidad del turismo costero y marino, con diseño, zonificación y manejo de áreas protegidas, y con monitoreo de ecosistemas marinos estratégicos, en particular arrecifes coralinos y pastos marinos. He promovido y apoyado la iniciativa sobre manejo de la pesca fantasma que desarrolla Ecomares en el Pacífico colombiano.

• Abr 2021 – Jul 2024. Asesora de campo para pesca y acuacultura para el continente americano en Fair Trade USA.
• Feb 2020 – Mar 2021. Investigadora posdoctoral en Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research, en el marco del proyecto “Reef ecosystem restauration of Esmeraldas, Ecuador, following damages caused by ghost nets and other unsustainable fishing practices”.
